The land for which MBCA advocates extends beyond the Morongo Basin.   Joshua Tree National Park, the Mojave National Preserve, and the entire Mojave Desert are important to the health and welfare of the land and people in the Morongo Basin.  Thus, we acknowledge and thank the longest inhabitants of these desert lands, the Serrano, Chemehuevi, Mojave, and Cahuilla people and the Colorado River Indian Tribes who have lands in California and Arizona.   Through our mission, we honor and support their long stewardship of these lands. 

While the Morongo Basin can be defined by the political boundaries of the Morongo Unified School District, or by its geographical and ecosystem boundaries as the southernmost portion of the Mojave Desert, it is best known as a series of gateway communities along the north boundary of Joshua Tree National Park. The Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms forms a good part of the Basin's northern boundary. Twentynine Palms Highway (California State Route 62) is the lifeline transportation corridor for the Basin starting at Interstate 10 near Palm Springs, heading northeast and then east to the Arizona border.
